Practise traffic signs
Recognise every sign in a few seconds. Practise with images from inside the car, just like in the exam.
In the theory exam you often see signs in a real traffic situation. You then need to know quickly what the sign means and what you have to do.
The good news: you don't have to memorise every sign separately. Shape and colour already tell you most of it.
Need to know
- Round with a red ring is a ban. Round and blue is a mandatory instruction.
- A triangle pointing up warns of danger.
- A triangle pointing down means give way.
- Rectangular and blue gives information, such as a parking area or one-way street.
- A sub-sign limits or explains the sign above it, for example with days and times.
Test yourself: practise traffic signs
Free, no account needed. With an explanation for every answer.
This is how it appears in the exam. Mind the order: a traffic controller overrides a traffic light, a traffic light overrides a sign, and a sign overrides the normal rules.
Frequently asked questions
How many traffic signs do you need to know for your theory?
There are lots of signs, but you'll recognise most of them straight away by their shapes and colours. After that, focus on the signs that come up often, such as right of way, speed, parking and overtaking.
What is the difference between no parking and no stopping?
With a no-parking sign you may stop briefly to let someone get in or out, or to load. With a no-stopping sign you may not stop at all.
Does a sign take priority over the normal right of way rules?
Yes. A sign overrides the general rules. A traffic light overrides a sign, and a traffic controller overrides everything.
