Practise speed and distance

Know all the speed limits and how your braking distance changes when you drive faster.

Speed questions look easy, but the exam often asks about exceptions and about what speed does to your stopping distance.

Learn the numbers first. Then practise the insight questions about braking distance and following distance.

Need to know

  • 50 km/h inside built-up areas, 80 km/h outside built-up areas.
  • On an expressway 100 km/h. On most motorways 100 km/h during the day, always follow the signs.
  • In a residential zone you drive at walking pace.
  • Twice as fast means a reaction distance twice as long and a braking distance about four times as long.
  • On a dry road, keep at least 2 seconds' distance.
